Pakistan mosque bombing killing at least 40 people

A bomb exploded in a mosque in a Pakistani tribal region as hundreds were gathered for prayers on Friday, killing at least 40 people and wounding 85 others in the first major attack in the country during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The attack came despite a period of relative calm in Pakistan, which has suffered numerous Taliban-led insurgent attacks in recent years. No group immediately claimed responsibility, but the Taliban and other Islamist militants have previously attacked mosques.
Some 300 people had gathered for prayers Friday afternoon in the Sunni mosque, and many were on their way out when the bomb exploded, local administrator Iqbal Khan said. Officials said there was some evidence a suicide attacker was involved.
At least 40 people were killed, and 85 wounded, local administrator Fazal Khan said.

Brazilian mayor gunned at party

The mayor of a Brazilian town was shot dead during a party, police said.

Antonio Luiz Cesar de Castro, mayor of Nova Canaa do Norte town in Mato Grosso state and a member of the Democrats party, was shot five times in front of one of his daughters by a hooded assailant, who fled on foot after the attack, a news portal said.

Police have not yet made any arrests. The safety secretary said a police tactical unit will assist with the investigation and pursue the killer.

Last month, another mayor of a Mato Grosso town of Novo Santo Antonio, Valdenir Antonio da Silva, was gunned down by two armed assailants at his home.

The 54-year-old Da Silva had gone outside his home after hearing dogs bark and came up against two intruders who shot him three times, including twice in the chest.

US man, known as the "Spam King" charged over Facebook spam turns himself in.

A US man charged with sending more than 27 million spam messages to Facebook users has turned himself in.
Sanford Wallace, who is known as the "Spam King", surrendered to FBI agents in California.
Prosecutors allege he developed a program that breached Facebook spam filters and lured users to submit their account details.
Mr Wallace denies the charges, which carry prison sentences of up to 10 years.
He has been released on $100,000 (£61,000) bail.
Prosecutors say Mr Wallace's program posted messages on Facebook users walls - purportedly from friends - urging users to visit a website where their account details were then harvested.
They were then redirected to an affiliate website that earned Wallace "substantial revenue", the charges say.
The program also retrieved lists of Facebook users' friends and posted spam messages on their walls, the indictment adds.
About 500,000 Facebook accounts were compromised between November 2008 and March 2009, leading to more than 27 million spam messages being sent, prosecutors said.
Mr Wallace, who is from Las Vegas, is charged with six counts of electronic mail fraud, three counts of intentional damage to a protected computer and two counts of criminal contempt.
Facebook sued Mr Wallace in 2009 and a federal judge ordered him not to access Facebook's computer network. However, prosecutors say he repeatedly violated that order earlier this year.
Mr Wallace also lost a civil case brought against him by MySpace in 2008 over junk messages sent to members of the social networking site.

Hidden cameras filmed couples in Gwalior restaurants discovered by local police. Cabins demolished by police (video)

Gwalior Restaurants in the university area in Gwalior often offered "cabins" by the hour to young college students. The police have discovered that hidden cameras were placed in these make-shift rooms.

The police raided five restaurants earlier this week, after residents complained of inappropriate activities, and found that the cameras were cleverly hidden inside speakers and electrical fittings.

The "cabins" have been demolished as per the orders of the Collector.
