US man, known as the "Spam King" charged over Facebook spam turns himself in.
Prosecutors allege he developed a program that breached Facebook spam filters and lured users to submit their account details.
Mr Wallace denies the charges, which carry prison sentences of up to 10 years.
He has been released on $100,000 (£61,000) bail.
Prosecutors say Mr Wallace's program posted messages on Facebook users walls - purportedly from friends - urging users to visit a website where their account details were then harvested.
They were then redirected to an affiliate website that earned Wallace "substantial revenue", the charges say.
The program also retrieved lists of Facebook users' friends and posted spam messages on their walls, the indictment adds.
About 500,000 Facebook accounts were compromised between November 2008 and March 2009, leading to more than 27 million spam messages being sent, prosecutors said.
Mr Wallace, who is from Las Vegas, is charged with six counts of electronic mail fraud, three counts of intentional damage to a protected computer and two counts of criminal contempt.
Facebook sued Mr Wallace in 2009 and a federal judge ordered him not to access Facebook's computer network. However, prosecutors say he repeatedly violated that order earlier this year.
Mr Wallace also lost a civil case brought against him by MySpace in 2008 over junk messages sent to members of the social networking site.

Wife troubled after sending hubby SMS meant for lover
London: The wife of a doctor landed herself in trouble after mistakenly sending to her hubby a text message which she meant for her lover, Daily Mail reported.
The doctor threatened to kill his estranged wife after she accidentally sent him a text message intended for her lover, a British court heard.
Nurse Victoria Stacey wrote a message for a family friend with whom she was having an affair, which read: 'How about another weekend in the Marriott Hotel in Birmingham?'
The court heard that because she was unfamiliar with her new mobile phone, she accidentally sent it to her husband Simon Stacey, 39, instead of her lover.
Stacey, mother of two children, said that after her husband received the text message, he called her to say 'he was going to come down and kill me at work'.
She admitted to the affair with a friend's husband while giving evidence during the trial for assault at Bolton Crown Court.
'I sent that message in error because I had just got a new mobile phone,' she told the court while adding that she had embarked on the affair after her husband moved out of the family home.
She also claimed to have allegedly suffered years of abuse by her husband.
The doctor has denied one count of assault causing actual bodily harm after allegedly beating his wife with a shoe, leaving her in fear for her life.

Hina Rabbani Khar a new fashion wave.
Delhi: Hina Rabbani Khar might have caught New Delhi's imagination, but her depiction in the Indian media as a 'fashion icon' seemed to have irked her.
Pakistan's youngest and first woman foreign minister, who returned to Pakistan on Thursday after a three-day visit to New Delhi, reacted angrily to questions pertaining to her coverage in leading Indian dailies.
"You see paparazzi are every where. Besides, you (referring to media) should not do such acts," Khar said, in reply to a question at the Lahore airport on her arrival.
Hina Rabbani Khar was the talk of the town, with the media closely following her fashion accessories.
An Indian newspaper, while writing about her arrival in New Delhi, said: "her monotone outfit of a blue the colour of the season, tasteful accessories Roberto Cavalli sunglasses, oversized Hermes Birkin bag and glass pearl .
jewellery added a glamour to her look".
Just know his backgrounds of Norway killer Anders Behring Breivik
Breivik was born in Oslo, on 13 February 1979. Breivik lived with his mother and his half sister in the west end of oslo and regularly visited his father and stepmother in France, until they divorced when he was 12. His mother also remarried, to a Norwegian army officer.
Breivik criticised both of his parents for supporting the policies of the Norwegian labor party and his mother for being a moderate feminist.
The simple and perhaps comforting explanation as to why people like Breivik commit such horrific acts is that they are insane.
As Seumas Milne notes in the Australian newspaper The Age (July 29, 2011) writing such people off as madmen “has the advantage of meaning no wider conclusions need to be drawn about the social context of the atrocity.”
However unhinged Breivik may later turn out to be, his actions were inspired by the ideologies of others. In his 1,500-page manifesto he cites a large number of right-wing writers who influenced his thinking.
These are all people who have expressed highly negative opinions about multiculturalism and Muslim migration into Europe. These views became the focus of Breivik’s hatred. While his actions are extreme his views are not far away from what many consider mainstream.

The focus on Wednesday will be as much on 34-year-old Khar, Pakistan's first female and youngest-ever foreign minister, who was appointed to the post last week.
Khar's first major meeting in Delhi was with senior Kashmiri separatist leaders, including the hardliner Syed Ali Gilani, a sign of how the disputed region occupies the prime position in ties between Pakistan and India.
"The trust deficit has to be removed on both sides," said a Pakistani Foreign Ministry official, who declined to be identified.

Russian girls urged to strip to support Putin's presidency
Russian girls urged to strip to support Putin's presidency
An online campaign has been launched in Russia urging young women to support Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in a presidential vote by taking off their clothes, a lawmaker’s site showed on Sunday.
Called “Putin’s Army,” it features a video of a blonde student called Diana who struts along Moscow’s streets in high heels and a black suit before scrawling “I will tear my clothes off for Putin” on a white top in red lipstick and starting to undo her clothes.Inviting girls to strip off for Mr. Putin for the chance of winning an iPad2, the campaign comes ahead of the March 2012 presidential vote. Mr. Putin was president between 2000-2008 before handing the reins to his protégé Dmitry Medvedev.
Widely seen as Russia’s key decision-maker, Mr. Putin may return to the Kremlin next year.
“The goal: For Putin to be president!” said a statement on its page on social networking site vkontakte.ru/armiaputina, Russia’s answer to Facebook.
During Russia’s Soviet era, nudity in advertising was a taboo but has since become widespread; a fact which has outraged Russian feminists who say it only intensifies an already sexualized culture where prostitution is common.

Obama-Dalai Lama meeting has hurt our feelings: China
The Dalai Lama, who is living in exile since 1959, says he is peacefully seeking rights for Tibetans and accepts Chinese rule. But China insists that he is a "splittist" bent on dividing the country.
"We demand the US side to seriously consider China's stance, immediately adopt measures to wipe out the baneful impact, stop interfering in China's internal affairs and cease to connive and support anti-China separatist forces that seek 'Tibet independence'," Ma said.
A meeting between Obama and the Dalai Lama last year, along with Washington's decision to supply weapons to Taiwan had ended up causing year-long friction.
China had called off all military contacts, but they were resumed recently with high level defence officials from both sides visiting each other.

4D Experiences
Nidhi S., a BA Pharmacy student, agrees. “All the sci-fi action films have been doing very well this year. But I would definitely like to try this new ‘smell’ concept. Though I think some people might react to the different kinds of smells. I do hope there is no stench involved,” she smiles. Robert Rodriguez, the director of the series, felt that after 3D films, the next logical step was to introduce the sense of smell, or “Aroma Scope”, into a film. He feels, “Families are going to love the interactivity of this new addition to the movie experience.”
Audiences will be given a card with eight different smells that can be sniffed at corresponding times throughout the film. For the moment, this aroma scope experience will be available only at few leading theatres in the city, which means only a few lucky ones will get to experience this. The exclusivity factor is also introduced with the availability of a limited number of scratch cards at the multiplexes across the country. “There are only about 200,000 to 300,000 cards that are being given to us by the film producers. If we take an average of fifty per cent occupancy, the audience can enjoy the aroma-scope experience for about three weeks,” says Deepak Sharma, COO, PVR Cinemas. So, how does this technology work? “The audience will be given cues throughout the film on which number code they have to scratch on during which scene. We still haven’t decided on the pricing of the card since it is steep.”
Gangrapped girl kills herself in up state India
Pooja's father claims she was gangraped by the village chief's husband Anu Verma and his men, who threatened to expose the teenager's alleged affair with her school teacher - whose role is also suspected.
"She was in the sugarcane field when they caught her and raped her. She started screaming and then the villagers found out about it," said Ram Prasad Tiwari, Pooja's father.
Police have detained the main accused Anu Verma and two of his accomplices. A second autopsy by a panel of doctors has also been ordered.
"Two accomplices of Anu Verma have been taken in for questioning and we have asked for a re-examination of her post mortem. A panel of doctors will look into it...the man is on the run we are trying to arrest him," said Amit Chandra, Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur Kheri.
Last month, the attempted rape and murder of a teenager inside a police compound in Lakhimpur Kheri sparked massive outrage. That was the beginning of the spate of crime against women that followed, something that doesn't seem to stop.

25 diamonds gathered by traders Mumbai blast debris removal
The police and NIA teams conducted investigations at the spot throughout Friday. The entire area was cleared using a huge crane and the police sought assistance of some of the diamond brokers in searching the debris for any valuables. All the earth and grime that was lying on the road was sieved and even each shiny speck was checked.
While members did not associate a value with the diamonds, some said they were some rather sizeable stones over two carats. An association member said, "The police teams which are probing the blast at Opera House collected lot of samples on Wednesday night and Thursday. We are not aware if they have any diamonds in the samples collected earlier from the spot. The police do not inform us about anything."
Officers from the anti-terrorism squad, including the chief, Rakesh Maria, were unavailable for comment as they were busy in a meeting on Friday evening.
TOI had written in its Friday edition that diamonds worth crores were lost during the blast as the explosion ripped through Khau Galli, injuring several diamond brokers.
